Northern Lights
Image Story
Seeing the northern lights has always been something I associated with places like Iceland, Norway or Finland. I never expected an aurora photograph to be taken close to home.
When strong solar activity reached Earth in January 2026, the aurora became visible from the Netherlands. Even knowing the forecast in advance, it still felt unreal to watch curtains of light appear in a sky where they normally do not belong.
This image was captured quickly, more as a way to preserve the moment than as a carefully planned astrophotography project. Sometimes that is exactly what makes a photograph meaningful. The experience mattered more than the equipment or the technique.
For a brief moment, my backyard like something from much further north.
