Why I Started Bart's Astro Photo
Published on June 13, 2026
Welcome to Bart’s Astro Photo.
This website exists for a simple reason: I wanted a place to document my journey through astrophotography.
Like many hobbies, astrophotography can look effortless from the outside. You see a beautiful image of a galaxy or nebula, and it is easy to forget the hours of planning, troubleshooting, cloudy nights, failed captures, and processing experiments behind it.
My own journey started with a fascination for the night sky. What began as looking up at the constelations when I was a kid, went to looking through my telescope at the planets and brighter deep sky opjects and gradually evolved into learning how to capture and process images of objects millions of light-years away. Along the way, I have discovered that astrophotography is equal parts science, engineering, patience, and creativity.
This site is not intended to be a portfolio of perfect images. There are plenty of photographers producing work far beyond what I can currently achieve. Instead, I want this to be a record of progress.
You will find successful images here, but also the stories behind them: the equipment used, the challenges encountered, the lessons learned, and sometimes the mistakes that taught me the most.
As a software engineer, I naturally enjoy understanding how things work. That curiosity extends into astronomy, telescope tracking systems, image processing workflows, and the countless technical details that make astrophotography such a rewarding hobby.
Whether you are an experienced astrophotographer, someone considering your first telescope, or simply someone who enjoys looking up at the stars, I hope you will find something interesting here.
The night sky has been inspiring people for thousands of years. This website is my small attempt to share that inspiration and document my own learning along the way.
Clear skies,
Bart
